We have been invited to airmark the Quincy Gansner Field airport. I have met with the airport facilities manager and there are two projects: one is a compass rose and the other is QUINCY + elev + CTAF on the taxiway. We have scheduled two weekends (Fri & Sat.). July 10 & 11 and July 17 & 18. The airport will supply paint (white and blue) and we’ll be the womanpower. Our chapter has rollers, roller sticks, buckets, screens, chalk lines, etc. We haven’t done an airmarking since Yerington many years ago…so it is time to start doing them again!
Tom and I (Lynn) will go up the day before and chalk out the patterns on the asphalt. We will be staying in a local motel that is within walking distance of the airport. I am attaching information on each motel for those who want to stay overnight. It is a 1.5 hour drive from Reno or a 45 min flight. PLEASE RSVP to Lynn Meadows if you are coming. IF you are flying and have empty seats available, please let me know. Letting me know the day before is also OK. Arriving at the airport before 8 a.m. is good, but any time will work. Of course your 49 1/2s and friends are welcome to help.
I am attaching some other information about what to wear, bring, etc. to this email. It is always weather dependent, so flexibility is needed. Rain may occur or it may be too hot. We will watch weather closely. On the days of the project I will have my cell phone on (I usually do NOT have it on!) and it is (530) 386-6299. Texts are always good!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Lynn

AIRMARKING REMINDERS:
• MAKE SURE YOU WEAR OLD CLOTHES & SHOES. You may want to bring both long pants and short pants. It may be cool in the morning and warmer in the afternoon. Be comfortable, not stylish! Also bring a jacket/ windbreaker/ sweatshirt.
• Wear a hat AND use plenty of sunscreen and lip balm. Sun reflected from blacktop is hot and burns skin even on an overcast day. No shade trees on runways!
• If you have a foam gardening kneeling pad or knee pads or a small carpet scrap, bring it. Some of the work to be done requires sitting or kneeling on the blacktop. Let's be as comfortable as possible.
• We seem to have enough painting equipment but if you happen to have a 2 inch paint roller or a 2 inch paint brush, bring them along. Put your name on them just in case.
• Old rags to wipe up spills are needed. If you have some, bring 'em.
It’s a fun project and a good public service to the aviation community!
So come along and have some fun.
